Digital Promise believes that high-quality, competency-based micro-credentials and learner-centered credentialing products are the key to providing historically and systematically excluded learners with opportunities for skill recognition, advancement, and empowerment.

The Micro-credential Platform is a public-facing website where learners choose a relevant micro-credential and submit their work examples and artifacts to demonstrate their competency. The submission is reviewed by subject-matter experts and then either awarded or denied. If denied, the learner can resubmit until they achieve the award.

All micro-credentials on the Digital Promise Micro-credential Platform are signified by a transferable, interoperable Open Badge. When learners are awarded their micro-credential, an Open Badge is issued alongside it.

This is where Badge Engine comes in, Digital Promise built and launched this new, open-source, Open Badge technology platform to ensure equitable access to sharable, transferable Open Badges that do not perpetuate inequities in the education system. This open-source badging technology aligns with the Open Badge 3.0 standard. The technology is based in:

  • Learner Autonomy and Control of Data
  • Open-Source and Sustainability
  • Adherence to Open Badges Standard V3.0

When you earn your micro-credential award, you can download the Open Badge, share it with your networks, and store it in your digital repository of choice.
