In the fall of 2024, the Micro-credential Platform implemented the Auth0 login system to bring an extra layer of security to user account management.

With the new login system, you will need a device (preferably a smartphone/tablet, but a computer can also do) to install an authenticator app to set it up.

Once the setup is done, with all future log-ins, you can either 1) use the authenticator app on that device to get a 6-digit one-time code, or 2) use a long recovery code if you don’t have your authenticator app with you.

Why do I need to authenticate in addition to my login password? Research found that as digital credentials grow in popularity, their privacy and safety are of the utmost importance. Having a second layer of security is important to ensuring your micro-credential award can only be accessed, awarded, and shared by you.

To set up with the new log-in system

I have a micro-credential account, and I used Google/Microsoft Single Sign-On when I created my account

Please have your chosen device ready with you, and download an authenticator app on your device.

  • If your device is a smartphone or a tablet (Recommended)
    • Please download an authenticator app from your app store. Google Authenticator (windows/iOS) is a popular avenue.
  • If you don't have a smartphone and can only access your computer
    • KeePassXC is an app on computers that works just like Google Authenticator on smartphones. Check this guide for a step-by-step setup instruction.
  1. Navigate to https://microcredentials.digitalpromise.org/, and hit “sign in or sign up” in the top right corner.

  1. Choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Microsoft Account”, and log in

  1. If you are using a smartphone or tablet to download the authenticator app, use the app to scan the QR code, then the app will give you a 6-digit one-time code. Put the code in the following box, and hit Continue.

If you are using your computer to download the authenticator app, or having trouble scanning (e.g. if your camera is not working), you can hit “trouble scanning?”, and it will take you to this page.

Copy and paste the code on the screen, and manually enter it into the authenticator app, and then the app will give you a 6-digit one-time code. Put the code in the following box and hit Continue.

  1. Then you will come to this recovery code page. Please make sure to copy it and keep it somewhere safe and accessible. If the next time when you need to log in without your authenticator app, you will need this recovery code to log in.

  1. Congratulations! You are done with the setup, and can now jump to the login part.
